We had the privilege of being Jessie’s FIRST TV interview after her big send off on Monday night’s episode of The Bachelor. Let me just say…she is every bit as sweet and lovely and beautiful as you’d think (and more). We were only allowed to talk about certain topics (understandably so) and she was as refreshingly honest with us as she was with Jake Pavelka (even though it came back to haunt her when he denied her a rose)….have no fear…Jessie is not a woman scorned…she says her and Jake became good friends but the chemistry just wasn’t there. Now for the big question…is sweet Jessie up to being the next Bachelorette if asked? We know the producers love them some Canadian talent (like Gillian). If you missed Jessie on the show this morning…click on the video and hear for yourself!
We wish you all of the best in luck and love and all things great in life Jessie….Jake missed out BIG TIME with you!

Yesterday was Family Literacy Day and I hosted the Media Event at the Royal Conservatory of Music.  Robert Munsch read & sang from his book “Love You Forever”.  I cried..I could never get through it without crying when I read it to Jackson & Georgia.

I am proud to be an Ambassador for literacy and to work with ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation to help raise awareness of the importance of literacy in everyone’s life.

go to www.familyliteracyday.ca for more info.

Orchids

posted on January 26th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 4 comments »

I always find this time of year a little dreary. I guess I suffer from the mid January – February blahs. One way to wash the blahs away is to add some colour to your home. Colour can be brought into our homes via potted flowering spring bulbs and cut flowers. I find both inspiring but they don’t last all that long.

Orchids last a little longer and the cost is really reasonable these days. I found orchids for as little as $9.99 and I’ve seen them everywhere from the big box stores, garden centres to the smallest convenience stores.

This morning on BT (see above) I outlined some basic info on Orchids. The top 5 things you should know about Orchids.

1. Do not over water and insure water is left off the foliage and especially is kept away from the crown and flowers. Orchids left in standing water will not be happy. The best water is one that is left at room temperature and doesn’t have an excessive amount of salts.

2. Light. There are over 30,000 different types of orchids and each has a different need and wants however most enjoy bright indirect or diffuse light. An east room with a window is ideal.

3. Temperature. Daytime temps of 20-24c with evening temps of 15c-18c. Orchids enjoy a drop in evening temps in the range of 5c.

4. After flowering remove flower spikes back to just above the base of the plant.

5. Humidity. Moth Orchids the most popular are found in tropical climates. Humidity lacks from almost all our homes in the winter. A humidifier will really help the performance of Orchids as they enjoy 70% humidity.

Orchids date back to prehistoric ages, collectors have died looking for them, thousands have been spent on unique varieties and for as little as $10 you can be enjoying them in your home…and for those that don’t know Orchids translated means testicle…I’m not lying.

I’m heading out with my two boys and my partner in Crime Laurie this week for a quick family vacation. Once again on my return I will be blogging about traveling with 2 children under 3. While on vacation I will be tweeting on Twitter (frankferragine) so be sure to follow.

Wow!!! Jake can open up his own florist shop with all of the leftover roses he’s hoarding!!! What a night….he chose to kick 4 women off instead of 2…I must admit..I found it pretty cool. The guy is serious about finding a wife and doesn’t want to string anyone along for a minute longer than he has to if he’s confident it won’t work out.
Our poor Canadian lass didn’t get much coverage (I wonder if they had any connection at all?). Who knew she’d be penalized for ‘outing’ Vienna’s secrets? I was the first to give Vienna the benefit of the doubt but when every single girl in the house turns on one person…it kind of makes you wonder if there’s a kernel of truth there.
As for Gia…love love love her….something extremely endearing about her…if Jake doesn’t pick her I imagine she will be the next Bachelorette…..what a story. An ugly-duckling blossoming into a fine swan….I can just see the opening montage of her as an awkward teen…(okay, okay, I’m getting way ahead of myself here). I worry that she may be too much of a city girl to truly serve as Jake’s co-pilot but they are lovely together…for now.

I’m still putting all bets on Ali….people at the office are giving her a hard time for whining about Vienna, but in her defence, if she’s truly falling for Jake and worried about him having his heart broken….I can see where her frustration is coming from if she’s seeing and hearing things we don’t.

Next week will be a telling one….will Ali and Tenley team up to air all of Vienna’s dirty laundry? And what exactly is it? She’s being made out to be the ‘Wes’ of the season but is she worthy? TBC my friends…TBC.
